State Declares August 29, 2017 Governor James Florio Day

The entire Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader team would like to wish our Founding PartnerGovernor James J. Florio a very happy 80th birthday today!

In recognition of the Governor’s years in public service to the State, New Jersey leaders officially declared, through passage of bills in both Houses and signing into law, August 29, 2017 as “Governor James Florio Day.”

“Jim Florio is one of New Jersey’s most respected and distinguished statesmen,” said Senate President Steve Sweeney who co-sponsored the bill with Senator Patrick Diegnan, Jr. “He demonstrated the courage of his convictions by putting the needs of the people he served ahead of personal political ambitions. As a member of the New Jersey Legislature, as a member of Congress and as Governor, he always acted on behalf of those in need. His reputation and his stature have grown over the years.”

“His ideas and ideals are ringing examples of courageous political leadership in gun control, education, economic reform, and environmental protections that provided a model for facing up to the economic and social challenges of our times,” said Senator Diegnan. “Today, the people of New Jersey remember a devoted public servant who represented his fellow citizens in the U.S. House of Representatives and as Governor of New Jersey for two decades and who fought for children to know education’s promise, and families to know new opportunity.”

During his term as Governor from 1990 to 1994, he signed the Clean Water Enforcement Act, noted as the strongest environmental law in the country, the Quality Education Act, which provided greater equality in the State’s school finance system, a landmark welfare reform package, and the nation’s toughest ban on assault weapons.

Happy Birthday, Governoattorney_florio.jpgr Jim!
