Superior Court Judge Robert A. Freedberg Joins Former Governor Florio, and the Founding Partners at Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader, LLC

Judge Freedberg received his Juris Doctorate from Columbia University School of Law in 1969. He was elected Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County in 1979, and was retained for additional terms in 1989 and 1999. He was assigned to preside in the juvenile court division for eight years and served as administrative judge of the domestic relations section for two years. He became President Judge in 1991, a position he held until becoming a judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. Governor Rendell nominated him to serve on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and the Senate unanimously confirmed the appointment. Judge Freedberg began service to the Superior Court on July 8, 2008. Governor Rendell nominated him for a second interim appointment to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and the Senate again unanimously confirmed the appointment to extend his service on the court to January 2, 2012.

Judge Freedberg’s affiliations, elected positions and board memberships are extensive. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, and was elected Zone Representative to the Executive Committee, 1994-96. He served as Chairman of the Intermediate/Small Counties Subcommittee, and also as a member of the Pennsylvania and Northampton County Bar Association. Furthermore, Judge Freedberg served as Chairman of the President's Advisory Board of the Good Shepherd Home. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the United Cerebral Palsy of the Lehigh Valley, and the Board of Directors of Lehigh Valley Legal Services. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania appointed him a member of the Judicial Council of Pennsylvania, a committee of appellate judges, trial judges, lawyers, and citizens which advises the Supreme Court on administrative matters. He was also appointed by the Supreme Court to the Intergovernmental Task Force on the District Justice System. He served on a task force to improve security in Pennsylvania's Common Pleas and magisterial district courts and was a member of the group which drafted "The Strategic Plan for the Pennsylvania Judiciary - 2008-2013," adopted by the Supreme Court. Finally, Chief Justice Cappy appointed Judge Freedberg to chair a committee of judges, lawyers, and court administration professionals to propose revised administrative rules on court reporting and transcripts.

Following his many accomplishments, Judge Freedberg has received numerous awards and honors for his years of service, which include a nomination for The Arthur Rubloff Memorial Award for Leadership and Achievement by a disabled individual by United Cerebral Palsy of the Lehigh Valley. Additionally, The Lehigh County Bar Association presented the 2002 Liberty Bell Award to Judge Freedberg for distinguished judicial service, and in 2007, he received the first Humanitarian Award presented by the Saint Anthony's Youth Center. Judge Freedberg also received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Lafayette College in 2002.

FPSF founder and former Governor Florio remarked, "Judge Freedberg will be an extraordinary addition to our growing list of remarkable attorneys and advisors. He will further help to classify Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader as a foremost authority in a variety of legal services that include Environmental, Education, Energy, and Governmental Law. We are honored by his decision to join FPSF.”
