Memorial Services for Our Partner, Paul T. Fader

To our clients, colleagues and friends:

Memorial services for our Partner, Paul T. Fader, will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 12:30 pm at Dwight Morrow High School, 274 Knickerbocker Road, in Englewood, NJ. Paul passed away suddenly on Monday, December 11, 2017.  His death is mourned by all who knew him.

Paul joined Governor James J. Florio, Michael J. Perrucci and Douglas J. Steinhardt in January 2006, and Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader, LLC, was formed.  At FPSF, Paul served as a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee and Chair of the government, regulatory affairs and lobbying practice groups. He represented numerous public and private clients, concentrating his practice in the areas of governmental affairs, redevelopment, real estate and land use law, and construction and public contracting.

In reflecting on Paul’s 58 years, Governor Jim Florio noted that, “Paul was an accomplished lawyer and dedicated public servant whose resume reads like the American success story it was.  After overcoming the challenges of youth, Paul rose to the highest levels of State government where he served as Chief Counsel to New Jersey Governors Richard J. Codey and James E. McGreevey, and provided legal counsel to, and representation for, the Governor of the State of New Jersey on issues involving all aspects of state government.  His impact on this State is evident from the Port of Newark to the Port of Camden, and everywhere in between.”

Before serving as Chief Counsel, Paul served as Deputy Chief Counsel and Director of the Authorities Unit in the Office of Governor James E. McGreevey. The Authorities Unit superintends the state’s 43 independent authorities, boards and commissions, which include the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment and Development Authority and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. As Director of the Authorities Unit, Paul was responsible for over 44,000 employees and an annual aggregate revenue stream of more than $14 billion. Paul's leadership was instrumental in the consolidation of the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway Authorities.

From 2003 to 2005, Paul served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Transit Corporation, the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation, the Capital City Redevelopment Authority, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. Paul was a two term Mayor of the City of Englewood. During his tenure, Paul spearheaded an initiative to redevelop Englewood’s Downtown Business District, which earned the City the New Jersey Smart Growth Award for Downtown Redevelopment.

As a result of his efforts, in 2001 New Jersey Monthly Magazine named Englewood the most livable city in New Jersey. Prior to becoming Mayor, Paul served as Chairman of the Englewood Housing Authority and as Chairman of the Englewood Planning Board.

Paul was a member of Governor-Elect James E. McGreevey’s transition team and served on United States Senators Jon Corzine and Robert G. Torricelli’s Federal Judicial Nominating Committee for the Federal District Court for the State of New Jersey. Paul was also a delegate for President William Jefferson Clinton to the 1996 Democratic National Convention. In 2012, Paul was elected as a delegate for President Barack Obama to the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

In 2010, Paul joined the leadership team of Team Capital Bank, where he served on the Credit Committee. Paul served on the Board of Trustees of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center including the Finance Committee, and co-chaired the Strategic Planning Committee. Paul was a former member of the Board for Shelter our Sisters, a Bergen County shelter for battered women. He also served as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University from 2005 to 2011, where he taught New Jersey Government and Politics.

The New Jersey Law Journal ranked Paul among the “Top Ten Lawyer-Lobbyists in the State of New Jersey.”  He was also recognized by his peers as a Top Lawyer in Bergen County by (201) Best of Bergen magazine.

During his career, Paul authored numerous articles on construction law, public bidding, redevelopment, and employment law which were featured in publications such as UTCA MagazineConstructor Magazine, and Meadowlands USA Magazine.

In 1998, Paul and his wife, Jill, founded the Walk for Awareness: Our Fight Against Breast Cancer. Since 1998, this 5K walk has been held each October to raise breast cancer awareness, promote self-examination, and highlight the importance of early detection. “The Walk” has raised over $1.5 million for the Leslie Simon Breast Care Center at Englewood Hospital, providing new equipment and free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women. In 2014, Paul and his wife Jill received the Touchstone Award at Englewood Hospital & Medical Center's Annual Gala for their efforts to fight breast cancer.

Paul leaves behind his loving wife, Jill Morgan Fader, and four beautiful children, sons Jack and Lucas, and daughters Morgan and Sydney.  We hope you will continue to keep the Fader family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
