Members of our Firm’s Education Practice Group will present several workshops in the Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader Learning Lab in relation to this year’s theme “Empowering the 21st Century Student” and will also serve as panelists and speakers at events scheduled during the three-day workshop.
Jason Isom, Esq. will host the discussion "Board Member Participation in Interviews: Pitfalls & Best Practices." Discussion will focus on limitations on board member participation, eligible positions and best practices to ensure an equitable process, and will also briefly touch on state rules and regulations governing the interview process.
Phil Morin, Esq. will tackle the question "Is Your District an Easy Target for Cyberthieves?" which will discuss the vulnerability of school districts to cybersecurity threats, the available insurance options for school districts and regulatory proposals to provide greater protection to the public sector, including school districts.
Jenna Rottenberg, Esq. will lead the discussion "Religion and Public Schools: When Tolerance Becomes Too Much" addressing new challenges school districts face relating to religion and religious tolerance. The talk will dive into the debate over what holidays should be included on the school’s calendar, what prayer accommodations must be made during the school day and whether or not Halloween costumes are the “mark of the devil."
Shana Attas, Esq. will serve as presenter during the School Law Forum session "Moving Targets - a Practitioner's Playbook for Special Ed Litigation."
