Lester E. Taylor III, Firm Partner and Chair of the Education Practice Group, will take part in the annual Mock Board Meeting, a highly-anticipated session featuring school law professionals conducting a “mock school board meeting” addressing school district leaders on sensitive topics such as student discipline, social media, transgender students, negotiations, and race.

Mr. Taylor will also present “Getting Past Impasse: Strategies and Practitioners Advice for Dealing with Difficult Negotiations.” This discussion will teach board members, administration, and members of the negotiation committee their proper role in handling negotiations, as well as strategies for working with the union, public and other members of the board to help move through the process. The discussion will also advise on how to deal with contentious labor relations, media requests, and other board related matters.

Partner Philip J. Morin, III will present “Don’t Be Tardy With Your Notice Obligations: A Primer on Key Insurance Coverage Issues.” This session will educate school board leaders on how to manage a district’s insurance coverage. Mr. Morin’s session will explore the responsibilities of the insured, such as following strict requirements on reporting claims so as not to jeopardize payment of a claim or trigger a loss of coverage.

Katharine Fina, Associate attorney, will present “What’s So Challenging About Bid Challenges: An Explanation of the NJ Public Schools Contracts Law, How to Survive a Bid Challenge, and Potential Pitfalls in Public Bidding.” Ms. Fina will address school board members on the contract process explaining what types of contracts need to be publicly advertised; when and how a contract should be advertised; how a school district awards a contract; when a school district is required to reject a bid; and what a school district should do if a contractor or vendor submits a bid challenge.

Partner Joseph D. Castellucci, Jr., will address school board members, administrators and school board attorneys on Employee Disability Accommodations during the School Law Forum held on the final day of Workshop.
